Golden Lion Tamarin Project
During the 2010/2011 school year I worked with Nancy, my zoo teacher, on an independent project. I had to choose an animal, research its habitat, and create a model exhibit with a sign. I chose the Golden Lion Tamarin. I learned a lot about them. When everything was done, I had to give a Grand Opening speech just like if the zoo were opening a Golden Lion Tamarin exhibit for real.
After I was done giving my presentation, Nancy took me on a special tour. I got to see one of the zoo’s kitchens. There was a lot of food, especially lettuce! Then I put on a mask and went behind the Emperor Tamarin exhibit with their trainer. When I first entered the exhibit the tamarins all came over to check me out. They were very curious about me. I helped the trainer by writing down the weight of each tamarin on a clipboard while she weighed them on the scale. They were so cute! I’m really glad I got to go back there.
