Sarah, a diver at the New England Aquarium who saw my trash video, invited me to feed Myrtle, the Green Sea turtle, because of everything I’ve been doing to try to help animals. I got to go on the platform above the Giant Ocean Tank with Sarah. I felt very lucky. Myrtle is 80 years old! She never stops eating, so they only give her a certain amount of food so she doesn’t go overboard. I fed her lettuce. She can eat a lot of lettuce at one time. Sometimes the fish will steal her food but they spit it back out! I loved feeding Myrtle the Turtle. I’m happy that I had such a wonderful opportunity and I enjoyed talking to Sarah and getting to meet some of the other divers. Kara, my Ocean Detectives teacher was there too. It was a great day!
I went to Ipswich today for an art class. The best part of my class was when I got to feed wild birds. I fed them seed right out of my hand! I was thrilled when the first bird landed on my hand, but I stayed very still because I wanted more birds to come. Each time a bird flew to my hand I smiled. I fed black-capped chickadees, tufted titmice, and a white-breasted nuthatch! I was surprised when the white-breasted nuthatch landed on my hand. I usually only see them standing upside down on trees. I enjoyed feeding all of the different types of birds and didn’t want to stop when it was time to go. I was so exhilarated that I skipped and hopped all the way back to the barn.
